Riëtte is a a registered Clinical Psychologist with a solid background in systemic theory and interpersonal psychotherapy. Prior to starting her private practice at the beginning of 2013, she completed a year internship at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital within the Dual Diagnosis and Forensic Units. Her Community Service year was completed at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital. Besides managing a successful private practice in Linden, she has also been a consulting psychologist for the Memorycare team since 2013. Memorycare is a medical and psychogeriatric service specialising in assessment and management of people with memory, related cognitive and mental health problems. She has gained meaningful experience in the psychological treatment of various psychiatric disorders, particularly dementia, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, anxiety, substance abuse, and bipolar disorder.

Therapeutically, she works predominantly from a systemic paradigm and draw inspiration from interpersonal psychotherapeutic methods. As a therapist, she sees her role as empowering, guiding and enabling people to think about and process change and new possibilities in their lives. Taking on this journey of discovery with clients from all walks of life is a task she takes seriously but also derives significant purpose from. Due to the nature of her training background, she is a firm believer in considering the individual within their broader context and adapting interventions to address difficulties in an effective and sustainable manner.

After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, Lauren completed her internship at both the Dr George Mukhari and Weskoppies Psychiatric hospitals. Her Community Service year was completed at Job Shimankana Tabane hospital in Rustenburg. Lauren joined Du Preez & Associates on a full time basis towards the beginning of 2017. She consults as part of the Memorycare team at Akeso Clinic in Parktown as well as managing out-patients at the practice in Linden.

Lauren has training from within a number of different psychological paradigms with a focus on systemic theory and interpersonal psychotherapy. Lauren has experience in working with adults and children as well as more severely affected psychiatric and general medical patients from a variety of backgrounds.

Lauren works predominantly from a systemic paradigm and believes in not only focusing on the processes within an individual but also on the relations they have with those around them. Thus, therapeutic interventions are adapted to target the individual as well as their environment resulting in long term change.
